The Peak District was Britain’s first National Park and covers 555 square miles. Visitors come from all over the world to marvel at the beauty of the park. The rich and highly diverse landscapes are a haven for walking, running, cycling, climbing, caving and much more.
The Peak District is split into two distinct areas: Dark Peak in the North and White Peak in the South. The differences are geological; the North has gritstone and characterised by dramatic edges, high peaks and crags. The South has limestone and softer rolling hills and gentler valleys.
Edale, where High Peak Challenges is based, is a valley in the Dark Peak and is the gateway to the two thousand foot high moorland plateau of Kinder Scout with its dramatic waterfall Kinder Downfall to the North and on the South side Mam Tor ridge. The views are stunning.
The Peak District is world famous for its show caves and has been mined for Bluejohn stone, a highly desirable non-precious jewel sought after in Victorian times.
The Peak District is the location of fine architectural homes such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hassop Hall with their fine art, sculpture and furnishings.
The Peak District is a tranquil, remote and peaceful location within easy travelling distance of many major Midland cities.
